Loco Brewery North Scottsdale is a brewpub owned by the Loco Patron group. This location opened in early 2018, but the group has been operating restaurants since 2004.
The name is Spanish for “Crazy Boss” which I can’t vouch for, but they do serve Mexican-inspired food. They state that they source local ingredients whenever possible.
The location in north Scottsdale is styled similarly to some other local favorite large brewpub/sports bar venues like O.H.S.O. Brewery. It’s not so much just about craft beer, but also a place to gather for a meal and entertainment.
The Place
Loco Brewery North Scottsdale (LBNS) is situated in the commercial area near Hwy. 101 and Raintree. The restaurant occupies a free-standing building that is accessed from North Northsight Blvd.
There are many other restaurants and shops in the area, including Grimaldi’s Pizza, Costco and Kohl’s department store. There are a lot of office buildings in this area so it can get pretty busy at lunchtime during the week.

LBNS has plenty of free parking right next to the building. We even found a spot in the shad on the hot day we visited in July 2022.
Walking up to the entrance, we notice a large outdoor dining patio on one side of the building. They have it set up as a real hangout space with shade, misters, a play fountain and several games like cornhole, ping pong and mini golf.

We also noticed comfy couches and firepits near the outdoor bar. It was still too hot to sit outside at lunchtime when we were there, but I bet it’s great in cooler weather.
The inside of the place is pretty big with at least 16 tables in addition to stools at the bar. The vibe was that of a typical “sports bar,” featuring about 13 big-screen TVs and loud 90s pop music on the sound system.
Loco Patron Brewery is listed as a Packers Fan hangout on packerseverywhere.com. They have University of Wisconsin paraphernalia all over the place, too. Our server told us one of the owners has a connection to Wisconsin.

There is a large bar in the center of the dining room and the kitchen is toward the back of the space. On another side of the dining area, you can see the brewing equipment behind the glass of a smaller room.
Overall, the place is clean, welcoming and comfortable. It feels like a good spot to meet up with friends to watch the game or toss back a few tacos and brews.
The Food
We sat in a comfortable booth inside and received prompt and courteous service. The food menu is large and focuses on Mexican and Southwest-influenced food.
We tried a “Brewer’s Burger.” The burger was covered with crisp bacon and melted cheese. It was huge, juicy and cooked perfectly medium-rare as ordered. They were happy to serve it “protein-style” on lettuce instead of a bun. I would call it a way-above-average burger.

Of course, we had to sample their tacos since that’s their specialty. The barbacoa soft taco and tequila-lime Mahi tacos were fresh and well-seasoned. We would order them again.
Our take on the food offerings at Loco Brewery is that their food is thoughtful, well-seasoned and uses high-quality ingredients. This is good brewpub food, not cheap reheated bar food!
The Beer
Now to tell you about our main concern: the house-made craft beer. Loco Brewery only offered 5 different Loco Beers the day we visited, but they had about another 15 or so from other breweries.
We’ve all been to restaurants offering their own craft beer as an afterthought and it’s not that great. But we were happily surprised by the quality of the beer we tasted at Loco Brewery. Their beer menu is small, but it’s worth stopping by this place to check them out.

Beer Reviews
Here’s what we tried at Loco Brewery North Scottsdale…
Beer-ABV/IBU | Notes |
---|---|
The Ocho Double West Coast IPA 8.8%/88 IBU | Deep gold, hazy; hoppy, bitter, slight malt; easy drinking for high alcohol beer favorite of the day |
Senor Hopper IPA 7.0%/66 IBU | Medium gold with aroma of mango; flavors: moderately bitter, fruity, juicy; medium to heavy body; well balanced, quaffable |
Overall Impression
Although craft beer does not take center stage at Loco Brewery, the few selections they offer are pretty darned good! If you’re a craft beer lover and want to watch the game and eat some high-quality Southwest/Mexican food, you should choose Loco Brewery.
